Clara Elizabeth "Tut" "Bobo" Sledge Brown passed from this life on January 9, 2021. She was born to the late James Bly Sledge and Mildred Elizabeth Farmer
Sledge on November 10, 1954, in Memphis, Tennessee. Clara was a proud graduate of Westwood High School, class of 1972, She furthered her education by attending Shelby State Community College, and Tennessee State University. She accepted Christ at an early stage at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Levi Phillips. She was a loyal lifetime member under the leadership of Bishop T.L. McCray where she served on the Usher Board, Macedonia Greeters, and played on the Macedonia Lady Mustang's softball team. For many years Clara was employed with Memphis Public Library, Internal Revenue Service, Shelby County Sheriff Department, and Nursing Coordinator for Saint Joseph Hospital, Trinity Health Care, and St. Francis Hospital. Clara's passion was her family. She would give her last to help with money, food, shelter or whatever the need was. She was a beautiful woman with a big heart and that is why her favorite color was RED. She had many talents and loved doing them such as cooking, sewing, doing hair and of course DANCING. Her favorite thing to do every day was to watch Lifetime movies while eating popcorn. She enjoyed traveling and most of all spending time with family. She had a major illness in November 2013 and the summer of 2014 that never slowed her down and she never lost hope. When Clara put on her jogging suit and her tennis shoes, she was ready to ride. Her favorite trip was across the bridge. Clara was part of a large family of eight brothers and five sisters. Clara leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted husband of twelve years, Calvin Brown; four daughters; Erica Bailey (Julius), Lakisha Bailey, Ebony Brown, and Kristina Brown, all of Memphis, Tennessee; two sons, Travon Brown of Los Angeles, CA, and Ronald Brown (Samayyah) of Seattle, WA; three sisters, Hurmene Sledge Hall, Pattie Sledge Robinson, of Memphis, and Earline (George) Nunn of Chicago, IL, six brothers; Lee Hubert (Sally Ruth) Sledge of Greenwood, Ms., James Edward (Viola) Sledge of Chicago, IL., James Earl (Ruby) Sledge of Kansas, MO., Louis Lee Sledge, Morgan Earl Sledge, and Alonzo B. Sledge of Memphis, Tn., four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, eleven grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Clara was proceed in death by her sisters, Betty Jo, and Fannie Mae, and brothers, J.C., and O.Z. |
