Nodya Jeanette Loftiss Hair, 65, Bartlett, TN. died unexpectedly at Germantown Methodist Hospital on December 14, 2011. She was born in Memphis and graduated from Westwood High School and Memphis State University where she received her BS in Education.
After graduation Nodya married her high school sweetheart, H Earle Hair III. She loved books and served as Librarian at several Shelby County Schools. Eighteen years ago, she started the library at Appling Middle School where she served until becoming ill. Nodya loved her job at Appling and the students. She was known for making sure each child received individual attention and even found ways to make the library fun. Nodya was a dedicated member of Ellendale United Methodist Church.
After her husband's death, she co-founded The Free Spirits, a support group for widowed and single women. Over the years she served on numerous church boards and committees. She belonged to the "Up the Hill" Sunday School Class. Nodya was very active in the United Methodist Women's Group belonging to the Susannas and Sisters Circle. She was treasurer of both circles and was the only woman in the church to serve in two circles. The day before she was hospitalized she shopped for her Angel Tree child. Nodya told her friend Mary that the little girl wanted a Cabbage Patch Doll, and she was going to get it.
Many people in the Memphis area have enjoyed the beautiful cakes and confections created by Nodya and she always loved to see the smiles of the children when they came with their parents to pick up birthday cakes.
She was preceded in death by her husband H Earle Hair III, her parents Bill and Monez Loftiss, and her niece Dani Smiley. She is survived by sons, William Earle Hair (Katie) and Daniel Paul Hair (Holly), grandchildren, Birkley Britt Hair, Parker Jones Hair, and Jackson Daniel Hair, two sisters, Diane L. Smiley (Duff) and Sherry L. Raggett (Tom), brother-in-law, Bruce Hair (Susan), six nieces and nephews, and one great-niece.
The family received their friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 at Ellendale United Methodist Church, 7217 Centralia Rd, Memphis. Funeral Services for Mrs. Hair were at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011 also in the church auditorium and interment followed in Memory Hill Gardens.
