Richard Cecil Sutton, passed from this life on February 18, 2016. He was born May 17, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Richard H. Sutton and Marie McPherson Sutton. He grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and later moved to Bakersfield, California where he graduated from Antelope Valley High School.

Rick joined the U. S. Army in September of 1964 on a buddy plan with his best friend Ted Thorsen. He was awarded numerous military medals for his service time in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966.

After military service he attended Memphis Art Academy and Memphis State University. Rick graduated from Hallmark Aerotech in San Antonio, Texas and later began his work as a helicopter technician for Petroleum Helicopter Inc. in Lafayette, Louisiana. He worked from 1980 to 1990 on electronic downhole equipment for domestic and foreign support assignments in Saudi Arabia, West Africa and Brazil for Teleco Oilfield Services.

Rick was an artist, singer and guitar player. He passed that talent on to his children and grandchildren. He was a very adventurous person who loved traveling, boating and riding motorcycles. Some might be surprised to know that he was a marathon water skier and even skied the Mississippi River.

The family and friends would like to thank the VA Hospital for all of their loving care.

A memorial service was held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Olmstead Funeral Home with Bro. Tony Criswell officiating.
