{ November 26, 1946 - September 17, 2022 }

      Ruby Zane {Gunter} Dunehew, 75, of Houston, Texas passed from this life on Saturday, September 17th, 2022.
      Ruby was born in Banner, Mississippi on November 26th, 1946, to her loving parents, Rube and Pauline (Goodman) Gunter. She was married for 57 years to her lifetime love, Johnny Dunehew. They met through her cousin Butch, and Johnny knew the moment he saw her sitting on the bench at the store that she was the one he would love for the rest of their lives. She graduated from Westwood High School in 1964, and she and Johnny married on July 9th, 1965.

      Ruby and Johnny lived in Memphis, Tennessee as newlyweds, where Ruby worked for James S. Robinson Pharmacy. In May of 1967, they welcomed their first child, Lisa. Ruby went on to work at S&H Green Stamps, before the family relocated in January of 1968 to New York state for six months while Johnny completed training for his new job with NASA. Once the training was completed, the family once again relocated to Houston, Texas in July of 1968, where they made their home for many years.

      After moving to Houston, Ruby began working at Skylark Camera Shop, and then worked as a secretary at Hunt Tool. When Lisa was seven years old, Ruby decided to transition to a full time homemaker. In June of 1978, Ruby and Johnny welcomed their second child, Jeff.

      Ruby loved to spend her time crafting and tole painting, and she was very skilled at planning and details. She could see a space, whether in her home or in her garden, and know how to make it beautiful. She loved the movie Gone With the Wind and loved collecting decor and figurines from the movie. She was a skilled bowler and loved watching HGTV and Hallmark Channel movies. She was an excellent cook, and those who loved her remember the love and care she put into the dishes she made-sweet potato biscuits, chocolate pie, cream beef on toast, deviled eggs, and homemade biscuits were among some of her family's favorites. She always had sweet tea ready for her guests, and her home was warm and welcoming. She loved her dogs Mitzi and Zoe, loved eating at restaurants, and her 1978 Monte Carlo. Ruby also loved shopping and was a skilled gift giver to those she loved.

      One of her most cherished titles was that of Grandma and Great Grammy. She spent as much time as she could with her grandkids and great grandkids, and provided so many wonderful memories for them, whether that be time spent in the backyard she so lovingly curated, spending many Thanksgivings and Christmases together, or simple things like preparing sandwiches for her grandkids to eat on a long road trip, or an afternoon trip to a pumpkin patch.

      One of Ruby's most endearing qualities was her ability to see the humor in almost any situation. She had a laugh that was so contagious, and those who loved her loved both making and hearing her laugh.

      Ruby was strong and courageous, even through the challenges she faced over her last several years. Her love for Johnny and for her family remained strong, and the mark that she left on her family is indelible.

      She is survived by her husband Johnny, sister Shirley Green, brother Sherman Gunter and his wife Judy, brother Roy Gunter and his wife Debbie, her daughter Lisa Stiehr and her husband Ed, her son Jeff Dunehew and Diana Soto, her grandchildren Jessica Tankersley and her husband Tyler, Jennifer Mendenhall and her husband Josh, Drake Stiehr, and Shelby Stiehr, her great grandchildren Henry, Owen, and Charlotte Ruby Tankersley, Haven, Eisley, and Delilah Mendenhall, a host of beloved extended family members, and many cherished friends. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Rube, and Pauline Gunter.
